Avoid being a restaurant without a menu

Corné van Straten
June 2020

Imagine there’s a new restaurant in town.

You’re checking out their website, but it’s a little empty. In fact, it only has one page, featuring only this one line:

“We’re certified by the Food Safety Administration”.

That’s it.

No menu
No photos
No reviews
Nothing

Would you go eat there?

Unlikely.

Now consider that this is exactly what it’s like when you’re applying for a job with just your resume!

After all, your resume is just a list of degrees, and certifications. There’s no product, no value proposition, no social proof, nothing.

How is a company supposed to know you’re going to be valuable?

They can’t—unless you show something better.

So go do that.
