Stand Out Resume

Why a Video of a Front Flip Helped Me Stand Out on My Job Hunt

When you can profoundly differentiate yourself from everyone else, you become a much more valuable asset.

I often get approached in our shared office space as the “guy who did the flip video,” and it puts a smile on my face each time.

Proving you can create value

Creating a Crash pitch that really stands out seems like a challenging feat when you consider the number of talented individuals like yourself who are attempting to make one.

One of the most important pieces of your Crash puzzle is your elevator pitch video: a video that portrays your motives, creativity, expertise, willingness to learn, and so much more in a very short period of time.

Even if I had an hour to sit and describe myself to you, I don’t think I would be able to cover everything important that would make me a valuable asset. Everyone is complex, and storytelling is even more so.

So I thought to myself, How can I find ways to express positive traits about myself in a creative way without even speaking? And just like that, my elevator pitch on Crash was born.

The scene is set at the gymnastics gym I’ve trained at for years. I do a front flip off of a trampoline, proceeding to roll as I hit the ground, popping up in the frame and giving my short elevator pitch. I use this act to portray personability, incorporate my passions into the pitch, and essentially as a way to express my fun-loving traits without even having to mention them.

Even though the concept is very basic, just that little touch of uniqueness gained so much traction in the professional world (I was very surprised). It even helped me land my current job at GoodUnited.

Do just a little more

I believe we live in a very cookie-cutter world. Even creating a Crash pitch rather than a boring resume is a step in the direction of profound uniqueness. An out-of-the-box attitude will always exceed expectations. Actions speak much louder than words.

What little things can you do to stand out in a world of people who are following the same rhythm?
